MSc Maya Sappelli
I have a background in Artificial Intelligence as well as Linguistics.
The SWELL project gave me the opportunity to work on a PhD project on user centered information filtering in which I can use both areas of expertise.
In my work I mainly focus on understanding and supporting the user. The starting point is observing all interactions of a user with a computers, from which we can reason on about what might help the user in his current activities.
A large body of work goes into this reasoning; aka context recognition (recognizing what the user is doing).
Another part is on how we can use that information to help the user in his working life; for example by giving him feedback about his work patterns, by finding an appropriate moment to give feedback, by filtering notifications to help the user focus on his activities, or by suggesting information sources to help the user accomplish his tasks.
